Sexual Problems
Many people experience sexual difficulties at some stage of their lives. Our self-image is affected by how we are received by another, and how we experience ourselves, in this very vulnerable state.
Our ability to be sexually satisfied, and to satisfy our partners, is closely linked to how intimate we feel with them and how we experience ourselves in the relationship. Being able to talk about sexual difficulties, be they physical or emotional, without embarrassment or shame, is essential if we want to have more fulfilling lives. Right now even in this most private of area id being affected and exploited by media imagery, videos etc - exhorting us to compete and so feel inadequate.
The therapeutic relationship offers a safe, reliable space in which to explore these difficulties and practice getting information and feedback. As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I see exploring our understanding of desire, performance and intimacy as part of the clients growing awareness of their whole person. They can use the confidentiality of this space to examine 'taboo' subjects and move on to consider how to live a more satisfying life. Seeing busy couples makes it often easier to meet at lunchtime in SE1 or W1.
